Why you need maintenance of your electric fence in Kenya

After installation of your electric fence, most of the time you will forget about it. It is until there is an event that triggers your memory that you will realise that your electric fence is not working properly. Indeed, the maintenance of an electric fence is not a top priority for most people in Kenya. At Electric Fences Kenya, we encourage our clients to have a maintenance contract with us. This contract ensures that your electric fence works perfectly all the time. At minimal charges, we take care of your fence to ensure the safety of your family and valuables. Ensure that you have a maintenance contract of your electric fence in Kenya.

Maintenance Packages for Electric Fence

At Electric Fences Kenya, we have several packages that would work with each design of electric fence. They are as follows;

  1. Quarterly Scheduled Maintenance Package – This is where we visit your site every four (4) months.
  2. Half Yearly Scheduled Maintenance Package – This scheduled every six (6) months.
  3. Yearly Scheduled Maintenance Package – This is scheduled after twelve (12) months. This is ideal for farms or electric fence installation sites that have maintenance workers who will do routine maintenance of the electric fence.
  4. Unscheduled call outs. This maintenance contract has no scheduled date. A standard agreement on what services will be offered is agreed upon and also the rate of charges. This is for those areas with minimal activities or where there is always technical personnel in the payroll who is tasked with the day to day maintenance of the electric fence.

Services offered in scheduled maintenance

Our scheduled maintenance service ensures that you avoid breakdown in security. We ensures that your electric fence works all the time and in perfect condition. In particular, the following are some of the services we carry out during our maintenance visit.

  1. Check the condition of the electric fence. This includes tension of the wires, the insulators, paintwork and the steel posts or wooden posts.
  2. Check the condition of the energizer machine. Here we test the energizer machine to ensure that the fence output is good, the fence alarm is working OK, battery backup is working perfectly and other accessories attached to the energizer machine. Additionally, for the solar electric fence, we will check and clean the solar panels, check on the batteries and also charge controllers.
  3. Trim any plants or hedges growing near or along the fence line. The first thing to remember is that anything that is touching the electric fence hinders the working of the electric fence. Any plant or leaves touching the fence will cause a voltage drop along the fence line. Therefore, it is important to ensure that nothing touches the fence. Depending on the contract, this means trimming or spraying a weed killer along the fence to keep grass and plants down.
  4. Re-painting of fence posts. Steel post tends to rust over time if not properly painted. To ensure the steel posts are protected against rust we urge our clients to keep repainting them as much as possible.
  5. Replacement of damaged insulators, top caps and other accessories.
  6. The testing voltage across the fence. We test on multiple points along the fence line.
